The Undine® technology
Excellent cleaning with high velocity micro droplets
Undine® makes the difference
The Undine® concept is simple, but its effect is profound. Water and air are mixed under pressure in the Undine® mixing chamber, resulting in an excellent cleaning method with extremely low water consumption.
With Undine®, you not only improve hygiene but also save up to 70% on water and energy consumption and up to 60% on labor costs.
Undine® compared to high-pressure cleaning
We will compare cleaning with pressurized water at 40 bar (580 psi) alone to cleaning with Undine®. Undine® operates with a combination of 10 bar (145 psi) of water pressure and 8 bar (117 psi) of compressed air.
So, how is it possible that a 75% drop in water pressure results in better cleaning performance while using less water? Intuitively, more pressure seems to mean more force, and more force equals a lower chance for any kind of contamination to remain on the surface of the object being cleaned.
Yet, this is not the case. Our secret is to break up the water flow into microdroplets and accelerate them to much higher speeds. These high-speed microdroplets exert more force on contamination than a jet of water alone can.
We have conducted numerous studies to explain the physics behind this process and to demonstrate why Undine® penetrates surfaces more effectively than a standard water jet—without damaging the surface itself. This is a critical factor when cleaning poultry.
Undine® applications and benefits
We build closed cabinets that are designed to fit into existing production lines. We can also install our manifolds into existing systems, such as conveyor belts or OEM cleaning solutions. In general, the implementation of Undine® provides the following benefits:
- Better Cleaning: Undine® cleans much more thoroughly and intensively than conventional cleaning methods.
- Water and Energy Savings: With Undine®, you can save up to 70% on water and energy consumption.
- Labor Savings: With Undine®, labor-intensive manual cleaning of product carriers is no longer necessary, saving you up to 90% in labor costs.
- Less Damage and Higher Yield: With Undine®, vulnerable products are less likely to be damaged during cleaning, which significantly reduces product loss and unsaleable items, leading to a much higher yield. Product carriers (e.g., cooling shackles) can also suffer damage from high water pressures, making them more difficult to clean properly.
The Undine® modular concept
The Undine® Manifold is a modular system featuring multiple mixing chambers and nozzles. The manifolds are available in various configurations and are suitable for virtually any application. Products, shackles, filters, crates, conveyor belts – everything can be cleaned perfectly. The manifolds typically operate with water pressure between 2 and 40 bar (29 – 580 psi) and require air pressure of 6 – 8 bar (87- 117 psi).
Our manifolds come in different shapes, depending on the application. We offer a line of standardized units, and we can also create custom solutions, enabling optimal cleaning in almost every situation.
If there is insufficient space to install a manifold, the Undine® Turbo unit can be used. This unit can be implemented as an add-on to existing systems, upgrading them with all the benefits of Undine® technology.
